An artwork that was most successful for me would have to be my mask. I was in the middle of creating willow tree for the nature theme and I continuously got frustrated with it, but more on that later. So, I took a break and decided to do the next theme: Masks. While I made my shape for the face, I felt this calming feeling come over me and I felt relieved. I then laid out a slab and dropped the board so the slab would fit tightly around my shape. As I continued the building with this, I just felt so much better with everything. I think it is truly my most successful because I took a step back and did something relaxing and simple yet intriguing to me. It came out with this certain look that I can't really put into words, but it just makes me proud to call it mine.
An artwork that I feel I overcame the most obstacles with would have to my willow tree for the nature theme. This tree gave me such a hard time. I repeatedly tried to make limbs and they would just not stay. I got frustrated and almost gave up on the whole tree, but I had already used so much clay that I didn't want to scrap the whole thing, so I stuck it through and I'm glad I did. I finally decided to do paper limbs instead of the clay ones I so desperately tried to put on there. I started to paint it with coffee and the coffee wasn't coming out right, but slowly I overcame that by adding multiple layers.
The experience of a self-paced classroom has been one like no other. It really wakes you up, you come to class and not have to sit for another 45 minutes listening to yet another lecture. It's made me realize how independent I really am when I get to express myself, my way, and when I want. Some frustrations I have would have to be the lack of conversation maybe. I'm not too sure. A positive In definitely see would have to be the independent level really exceed above normal levels for high schoolers, sure we should be already independent, but the fact that we get to teach ourselves really helps. A negative I see would have to be the lack of actual clay work happening, I'm saying this because I'm that person too. I have other work and I work on it in here instead of making sculptures.
